Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when I double-click Deadnet
- 1.Make sure you're double-clicking the correct file for your OS: Deadnet.exe (Windows), Deadnet.app (macOS), Deadnet.AppImage (Linux). Your system may hide the file extension.
- 2.On macOS: First launch shows 'cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.' Click Cancel, then right-click Deadnet.app → Open → Open Anyway. You only need to do this once. Apple Silicon (M1–M4) required — Intel Macs are not supported.
- 3.On Windows: SmartScreen shows a blue 'Windows protected your PC' warning on first launch. Click 'More info' → 'Run anyway'. You only need to do this once.
- 4.On Linux: Make the AppImage executable first — right-click Deadnet.AppImage → Properties → Permissions → check 'Allow executing file as program', or run 'chmod +x Deadnet.AppImage' in a terminal. If it refuses to launch on a newer distro, install libfuse2 (e.g. 'sudo apt install libfuse2').
- 5.Ensure the USB drive is fully inserted and recognized by your computer.
Deadnet says I don't have enough RAM
- 1.Deadnet requires at least 8GB of RAM. Check your system's total RAM in Settings/System Preferences.
- 2.Close other applications to free up memory — especially browsers with many tabs, video editors, or other resource-heavy software.
- 3.Restart your computer and try again before opening other applications.
The AI is very slow to respond
- 1.First launch takes 1-3 minutes while the AI model loads into memory. This is normal — do not close the window.
- 2.The first question then takes another 30-90 seconds to answer. Subsequent questions are much faster.
- 3.If it remains slow, close other CPU-intensive applications.
- 4.USB 3.0+ ports (blue connector) are significantly faster than USB 2.0. Use a USB 3.0 or faster port if available.
A port is already in use error appears
- 1.Another application is using port 7860 on your computer.
- 2.Close any other local web servers, Jupyter notebooks, or development tools.
- 3.If the issue persists, restart your computer to clear the ports.
The browser doesn't open automatically
- 1.Open any web browser manually and navigate to: http://localhost:7860
- 2.If the page doesn't load, wait 1-3 minutes for Deadnet to finish starting up, then refresh.
